FEM simulation of dynamic recrystallization during asymmetric hot rolling of high-speed steel M2

Abstract. Dynamic recrystallization of high-speed steel (HSS) M2 occurs through a discontinuous mechanism, involving nucleation and growth strain-free grains. The initiation completion dynamic (dDRX) must be carried out in single rolling pass. time for 99% dDRX depends on the critical strain, strain rate equivalent that generated workpiece material level plays key role terms possibility to complete dDRX. High conventional hot pass is limited by too high forces. at low forces can achieved asymmetric rolling. Asymmetric process based purposefully created differences circumferential speeds work rolls. For such process, degree asymmetry defined speed ratio one most important parameters affecting force. In this single-pass HSS different temperatures range 850-1150 °C was simulated FEM JMAK model. effects thickness reduction force were investigated. temperature recrystallized volume fraction average size dynamically grains are presented. Symmetric processes compared.
